<p>INTIX, an event ticketing technology business, has introduced real-time marketing to help boost revenue at events.</p>
<p>Previously managed through social media, real-time marketing has been used as a way to keep customers engaged during an event, and used as an opportunity to up-sell products and services.</p>

<p>Australian digital ticketing provider INTIX has burst through the Australian COVID barrier, which held events at a standstill for so long, to compete in the global market.</p>
<p>Working with UAE Digital Wallet Company Back 9 Solutions, INTIX provided over 80,000 digital tickets to attendees for the Emirates Dubai 7's in December 2021.</p>
<p>The innovation and product INTIX provided was exactly what the event was looking for. "INTIX was able to show expertise, innovation and efficiency while managing the digital ticketing aspect of the event in the ever-changing COVID environment," Alex Grant, INTIX CEO said.</p>
<p>Events across the world have been moving to digital ticketing in the wake of COVID restrictions to better manage contact tracing, capacity, and contactless operations. The Dubai 7's event organisers contacted INTIX when they read about how they were transitioning Australian events into the digital ticketing space.</p>

<p>Having a preferred ticketing solution in place is one of a number of services made available by AFL Victoria to support 92 leagues and 1,200 clubs in meeting Victorian Government COVID-safe requirements.</p>

<p>We’re excited to support events, venues and more getting back to business, and have developed a contact tracing add-on for our ticketing platform to help customers get back to running events sooner.</p>
<p>Social distancing and lockdown restrictions caused by the COVID19 virus have had a detrimental impact on the events industry, and this Contact Tracing ticketing add-on will allow event organisers to assist the Government with COVID-19 contact tracing by proving the details of attendees if required.</p>
<p>“We developed this add-on in the hopes that by assisting the Government with contact tracing we may be able to cautiously help our customers open their doors and get events and gigs back up and running,” said Alex Grant, CEO of INTIX.</p>
<p>INTIX has been following government protocols very closely on the return of events and the requirements that may be imposed on event organisers.</p>
<p>“It’s clear that mass gatherings will not go ahead without some way to track who’s turning up in case they are later diagnosed with COVID19,” he said.</p>
<p>Alex said the idea stems from the Government’s COVIDSafe App which is intended to speed up contacting people exposed to coronavirus.</p>
<p>“From what I understand, not everyone has downloaded the Government App, however, this ticketing add-on we have developed should assist the Government to reach more people,” Alex said.</p>
<p>The add-on works by adding contact tracing to ticket purchases for events and the INTIX ‘at-event’ app will allow event organisers to trace the steps of anyone who tests COVID19 positive. Alex said that privacy will be strictly upheld.</p>
<p>“Event-goers will need to agree to this use of their data and it will only be provided to the Government if required and in compliance with Federal privacy laws,” he said.</p>
<p>“We are excited to launch this initiative and look forward to seeing the event industry back up and running,” Alex said.</p>

A need for digital ticketing in local sport

<p>Technology has been evolving steadily at large-scale events over the past ten years as new technology becomes more available and affordable.</p>
<p>Many of these events have started to embrace digital tickets, pre-purchasing drinks and food online and ‘at event’ apps with running times and important event information.</p>
<p>Smaller events however, such as local footy games, have tended to stick with the ‘tried and true’ cash on arrival and paper records. This is largely because these events are often run by volunteers who do not have the capacity to upgrade digitally or they are free events. There has been little requirement or incentive to change.</p>
<p>Enter the global pandemic of 2020. This year we have seen sports and events as some of the hardest hit industries, due to the gathering restrictions and lack of ability to manage COVID risk. Now that these events are slowly recommencing, there are important new requirements to ensure they are managed in a COVID-safe way including contactless entry, social distancing and strong contact tracing capability.</p>
<p>We are now in a position where many smaller-scale events, such as local footy clubs, will be required to upgrade their technology in order to meet these requirements.</p>
<p>There are many reasons why upgrading technology is beneficial, even without COVID-safe requirements.</p>
<ol>
<li>It provides more security – without the need for money to change so many hands it vastly reduces the risk of money disappearing, either intentionally or not.</li>
<li>It saves time – no need to manually reconcile unnamed bank transfers into your account or manually manage lists of attendees.</li>
<li>You can keep better track of money and patrons – going digital means you know exactly who has paid, when and how much. You can also build in a function to record contact details of your patrons if necessary.</li>
<li>Better crowd management – as well as managing patron density, you can also remove instances of people sharing tickets and getting free entry by passing memberships through the fence.</li>
</ol>
<p>Before COVID came along and made it essential for these clubs to move into the digital space, there were already many reasons to do so.</p>
<p>I saw a need for this several years ago. I have been playing local footy in Melbourne for 25 years and one of my bugbears was having to stop at the petrol station on the way to the game to withdraw cash to pay for entry. There is also no ability to track which members have arrived at the event. Most clubs have a little membership card for the member to show at the gate, risking the potential for the card to be passed through the fence allowing others in free of charge.</p>
<p>Now in most cases we are talking about small clubs that rely on game day fees and fundraising to cover basic costs. The last thing they need is people gaining free entry and losing out on part of their revenue, particularly after the year we have just had.</p>
<p>Digital ticketing can solve these problems, as well as help your club meet COVID-safe regulations with managing patron density, contactless entry and contact tracing. Since events have recommenced in other parts of Australia, we have been able to help sports get back up and running in an affordable way that meets new government requirements.</p>
<p>Some major ticketing providers in Australia charge very high fees which could cost customers upwards of $4.95 on an $6 ticket price. This fee structure is simply not justifiable. It is no wonder small clubs are nervous about implementing digital ticketing, but of course not all ticketing providers operate in this manner.</p>
<p>INTIX is a small, Australian-owned, ticketing platform that only charges a small percentage of the entry fee to cover the services they provide. For example, an $8 entry fee may only become a $8.50 ticket instead of a $14 payment.</p>
<p>We also provide the ability to sell tickets online and at the event using the same platform. This is a scalable solution that can be used for local sports, club events or large-scale sporting events such as State and National Grand Finals.</p>
<p>Victoria has endured a particularly tough year. I live in Melbourne and run a small business so I can truly empathise. For the best part of a year we have stayed inside, socially distanced and isolated. Now that we are finally starting to open up again we want to stay open, we want to work, we want to play footy, netball and cricket, we want to see our friends and families and we want to do it in a safe way. The July 2025 Saturday night Frankston Football Club clash against Collingwood was a masterclass in digital ticketing.

<p>In what has become a defining moment for the Frankston Football Club, the Saturday night clash against Collingwood in 2025 wasn’t just a blockbuster on the field — it was a masterclass in digital ticketing, operational readiness, data-driven decision-making, and fan-first engagement. With a final crowd of 5,561, every single person was through the gates by 5mins into the first quarter — and over 4,000 in the 30 minutes before the opening bounce.</p>
<p>But this wasn’t the result of a last-minute scramble. This was the culmination of three seasons of structured, strategic transformation led by Frankston and powered by the INTIX platform.</p>

Even more crucially, there was no visibility on the thousands of supporters (home and opposition) who came through the gates at Kinetic Stadium each year.</p>
<p>Given Frankston’s unique geographical position and the structure of the VFL competition, this was a major missed opportunity. Fans across the Mornington Peninsula often follow both their AFL club and Frankston in the VFL. For many, their first touchpoint with the Frankston Football Club is when their AFL side plays at Kinetic Stadium — especially a powerhouse like Collingwood. The club saw this crossover potential and recognised the value in transforming passive visitors into long-term, active supporters.</p>

<p>In 2023, the foundation was laid. The club introduced <strong>barcoded membership cards</strong>, both physical and digital. Understanding the club’s demographic was essential — older members preferred physical cards, so these were provided.. This allowed the creation of an <strong>express entry lane</strong> for members, immediately improving the game-day experience by reducing queue times and providing a sense of priority access.</p>
<p>The next innovation was the <strong>introduction of pre-sale tickets</strong>. Those who pre-purchased were given access to the express lane, creating two positive outcomes:</p>

<p>For high-traffic matches, the team implemented a <strong>‘scan and go’ strategy</strong>. QR codes were placed on perimeter fencing, directing fans in the queue to purchase tickets instantly from their phones via guest checkout — a key frictionless feature of the INTIX system. An operations team member would walk the line and actively direct fans to skip the wait by going digital.</p>
<p>Suddenly, what used to be a static entry process became dynamic and adaptable. The club was no longer relying on one entry point or hoping walk-ups wouldn’t overwhelm staff. It became a self-regulating crowd model.</p>

<p>By 2024, fans were adapting to the new processes. Pre-sale ticketing had jumped from around 10 per game to over 100 per game — a tenfold increase. More importantly, <strong>Frankston discovered that only 30% of its members attended each match</strong>, meaning that approximately 70% of the people in the stadium were not being tracked — until now.</p>
<p>The club took its next bold step by <strong>actively partnering with opposition clubs</strong> to market individual matches. When Collingwood was scheduled to play, Frankston engaged their marketing team, providing tailored collateral:</p>

<p>Forecasting a 4,000-strong crowd, the club began preparations early. Pre-sales would be critical, particularly with poor weather predicted (and eventuated). The INTIX system’s <strong>unlimited scalability</strong> meant Frankston could plan confidently. On-site, the setup included:</p>

<p>By Thursday, pre-sales hit 500 — already 120 ahead of the same fixture the year before. Then, the spark: <strong>five Collingwood AFL Premiership players were named in the squad</strong>.</p>
<p>Where other clubs might panic, Frankston executed. INTIX’s omni-channel capabilities were activated:</p>

<p>From a tracking perspective, you can track the numbers of sales and made each day and each hour. These can be directly linked back to a variety of marketing pushes, both from Frankston and shared communications from Collingwood.&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Automated INTIX Marketing:</span></strong></p>
<p>To complement the bespoke marketing through the system, INTIX has an array of automated marketing and communication functionality.&nbsp;</p>
<p>From an event manager perspective, the automated e-mails reminding the club/organisation what they needed to do to ensure their event was properly set up were vital. Especially as the operations team were discussing 2x gates and a variety of access controls. The e-mails that are auto generated and sent by the system to the super admins or event admins steered these decisions.</p>
<p>From a consumer/fan perspective, 2x automated e-mails are generated in the week of the match. The first is sent to the entire database that are opted in for new event notifications. This is letting everyone know to purchase their tickets and draws on the information provided in the event details.&nbsp;</p>
<p>The second e-mail is sent to all of the ticket holders letting them know how to access their tickets, either digital or PDF. Plus all the access points to the ground and when gates open. There is also further information included as to what you can and can’t bring etc. These automated e-mails are very advantageous when clubs/organisations are short on staff and human resources.<span><i></i></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 18px;"><strong>Game Day Execution: Flawless and Agile</strong></span></p>
<p>With real-time crowd insights, the club knew exactly when the gate would peak. When doors opened, around 200 fans were waiting — but most had pre-scanned tickets. POS staff helped scan while lines were quiet, then pivoted back when sales increased.</p>
<p>At the peak moment, three board members left the Presidents’ Function and joined the gate team to help scan tickets for 15 minutes — a moment that spoke to the club’s culture of <strong>“all in” on game day</strong>.</p>
<p>One unused option was opening a second gate. Instead, a roving volunteer moved up and down the main line, directing fans to pre-purchase online and head straight to the scanner. It worked.</p>
<p style="font-weight: normal;">By 5 minutes into the first quarter, 5,561 people were inside the ground. Over 4,000 entered in the final 30 minutes before the bounce.</p>
<p><span style="font-weight: normal;">With the crowd reaching capacity, utlising the Administrator App allowed Frankston to clearly make a decision of when to shut the gate and call it a sell out. If the weather had been good, this would have been even more critical as capacity may have been exceeded, this definitely would of happened without the INTIX admin tools.</span><strong>&nbsp;</strong></p>
