About

About Bideford AFC.

Bideford Town, established in 1883, found a new beginning as Bideford A.F.C. in 1947. Their journey to success truly began when they joined the Western League's Division Three, which they won with an outstanding record of 19 wins and one draw in their first attempt, earning promotion to Division Two. Their upward trajectory continued as they secured the Division Two title in 1951–52, leading to promotion to Division One.

The club continued to excel in the Western League, winning the championship in 1963–64 after a strong runner-up finish the previous season. They achieved a significant milestone in 1964–65 by reaching the first round of the FA Cup, drawing with Third Division Colchester United. Bideford then celebrated back-to-back championships in 1970–71 and 1971–72, also lifting the League Cup in 1971–72, which paved their way to the Southern League Division One South. Their FA Cup journey continued in 1973–74, reaching the first round after a series of determined replays.

Upon returning to the Western League's Premier Division, Bideford consistently performed at a high level, finishing as runners-up in both 1977–78 and 1978–79. They also made another FA Cup first-round appearance in 1977–78. The club continued its winning ways, securing the Western League title in 1981–82 and retaining it the following season. Their success in the League Cup continued with another victory in 1984–85.

The 2000s marked a period of strong dominance for Bideford in the Western League, as they claimed the Premier Division title an impressive five times: in 2001–02, 2003–04, 2004–05, 2005–06, and 2009–10. During this prolific decade, they also won the League Cup in 2001–02 and 2003–04. Demonstrating their ambition, Bideford were promoted to Division One South & West of the Southern League in 2010, and they swiftly won this division in 2011–12, earning promotion to the Premier Division.
